The Good Samaritan Benevolence Program
"Happy is he who is kind to the poor. Proverbs
14:21"
The
benevolence Program is a very significant part of CSM. Last
year we distributed over 2 million pounds of food to area ministries,
shelters, children's homes, after-school programs, churches
and the list goes on and on. We provided individuals and families
with emergency food packages from our Daily Bread Shoppe. We
assisted several organizations through our Food Pantry Voucher
program.
In 2004 we partnered with Congressman Artur Davis and his
Hunger Initiative program in providing food to the Black Belt
Counties
of Alabama. This partnership has been such a blessing to hundreds
of families. In 2005 we provided food to over 3,346 individuals
within these counties. Through this partnership we've had the
opportunity to serve with other ministries who are taking
services
to these poverty stricken counties.
-
We gave furniture and household items to hundreds of women
and families who were moving out of local shelters as well
as those who had disasters and fires.
-
We partnered with the Baptist Association in their Annual
Food for Friends Weekend. We also provided food and warehouse
space for their Summer Mission Groups.
-
Partnered with the Boy Scouts of America in their popcorn
distribution.
-
Partnered with Mission Birmingham and local churches in
assisting families affected by the hurricanes.
-
We adopted six families for Christmas, (two families from
New Orleans) and one teenager from the Alabama Sheriffs
Boys
Ranch.
